Social Studies Midwest Project
Social Studies helps us learn about history, geography, population, economy, politics and technology around the United States and the World. Social studies also give us facts about how these key areas have changed over time. Assume you are a reporter. Your project is to take a “social scientist” viewpoint of your focused state. You are to report factual details about the Midwest state of your choice and explain how the above key areas have changed over time.
Report Requirements:
Your report must include the following:
State History (When did it join the union, it’s capital, Famous People, etc)
State Geography, Land Characteristics –rivers, canals, plains, farming, and Climate (Think about the compass rose, what states surround your state?)
State Economy (Is your state “known” for anything?)
State Population
State Politics – Is it a Democratic or Republican State? Who is the current Governor?
Technology-Landmarks- How has technology changed the state? Any important landmarks located within the state?
Resources:
Through the next several weeks, you will be learning about the Midwest region of the United States. The course lectures, social studies books, and primary resources from the school library can be used to research your focused state. You must also do research at home which includes visiting your local library: Google: Kid Facts About “Your State Name”.
